I've served on the EDAC board for the past six years and am currently co-vice-chairperson. As I run for re-election, I would like to point to some of the areas in which I actively contribute to EDAC.
* First and foremost, I am a strong voice on the board, standing up for the interests of private EDA companies across the full range of EDAC work.
* I am board sponsor of the EDAC trade show committee. Maintaining a strong, financially-viable DAC that will adapt to our changing marketplace is critical for our industry, and especially for private EDA companies. The EDA Consortium is a one-third financial sponsor of DAC. The EDAC team had some major achievements over the past year: reducing the financial liability of DAC by hundreds of thousands of dollars; changing the way contracts are executed to give EDAC, representing the exhibitors, more control; advocating the DAC user track and co-located events to increase attendance. I also serve on the DAC strategy committee. There is more work to do, and I am committed to this cause.
* In my prior term, I was board sponsor to EDAC's communications committee, which developed a number of programs over the years to promote the industry. (The committee was not active for the past two years.)
Going forward, our industry must increase financial realization of the value we deliver to our customers. We must work within a market that has adapted to commodity-style buying patterns and the emergence of off-the-shelf flows. If reelected, I will work to increase industry dialogue (to the extent legally-allowable for an industry consortium) around business innovations. Potential topics for exploration are license delivery/tracking mechanisms, benefits and risks of flexible access models, and value-quantification metrics.
I respectfully request your vote for re-election to the EDAC board.
Thank you,
Kathryn Kranen
