EDA CONSORTIUM ELECTS NEW BOARD

Rhines Voted New Chairman, Benkoski and Bingham New Vice-Chairs

San Jose, Calif., May 20, 2002¾The Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Consortium announced today that it has elected a new board of directors to serve the organization through April of 2004. Walden C.  Rhines, PhD., CEO & Chairman of the Board of Mentor Graphics Corporation, has been elected chairman by the new board. Also elected, as vice chairpersons are Ray Bingham, President and CEO of Cadence Design Systems, who will serve along with Jacques Benkoski, PhD., President & CEO of Monterey Design Systems, Inc.

Rhines, who previously served as Chairman of EDA Consortium from 1996 to 1998, is a strong advocate of the EDA Consortium’s drive to communicate the role and the value of EDA through our message, EDA: Where Electronics Begins. “Jacques Benkoski was very effective in his role as leader of that communications thrust over the past two years. I am pleased that Jacques, Ray and I will be able to build upon this momentum in the coming two years”, said Rhines.

“The high tech investment community has also taken notice of the EDA Consortium message and our Market Statistics Program, as our industry has been one of the leading sources of new, innovative initial public offerings during the past year,” Rhines continued. “EDA Consortium’s program to improve interoperability of our tools has made much of that growth possible”.

The new board was elected by EDA Consortium’s general membership at their biennial election meeting on Tuesday, April 2. The new board chairman was elected at a special board meeting held on Thursday, May 16.
